Track Length: 5.303 km as of 2021

Track Laps: 58

Unique Features: Albert Park is a semi-permanent street circuit that is set at a real public park. Its beautiful lakeside setting is unique to any other race on the calendar.

The Albert Park Circuit has been part of the Formula 1 roster since its addition in 1996. It has been a consistent presence on the calendar and has frequently opened the Formula 1 calendar since its inclusion. The stunning Albert Park setting is unique to any other race on the calendar as the race takes place across a real public park. While the track is technical like a traditional street circuit, it is also far quicker, often being recognised as one of Formula 1’s fastest tracks.

This speed has only gotten quicker since its 2022 redesign that saw multiple corners removed, opening the track up even more, allowing drivers to go flat out for large stretches of the race. Due to the Albert Park Circuit traditionally opening up the F1 calendar, the track is used as a benchmark race for many teams and drivers. The race helps provide first real indicators as to whether or not any car enhancements have made the desired impact in comparison when put up against the competition.

How to Get to the Albert Park Circuit

The Albert Park Circuit is one of the more accessible tracks in Formula 1, located just outside of Melbourne’s city centre.

By Tram: The easiest option is by tram, with several routes stopping in close proximity to the circuit. Route 96, 12 and 16 all run near major circuit gates, and operate frequently. Make sure to check official tram updates for accurate information on race weekend.

By Train The closest major train stations to Albert Park are Flinders Street, Southern Cross, and Richmond. While walking from these stations is possible, the most convenient option is to take a connecting tram straight to your designated gate. By Car: While driving is possible, it isn’t advised during the weekend of the event. There is no public parking at Albert Park and many of the surrounding roads are likely closed on race weekend. It’s advised that if driving, you should park in the city centre and take connecting trams.

By Taxi: Taxi services such as Uber and Ola are convenient options, as many services can drop spectators off close to the circuit. There are often multiple drop off points provided near Albert Park.

By Foot: If you’re staying in nearby areas like Southbank or St Kilda, walking is a realistic option. Most routes to the circuit are straightforward and will be clearly signposted throughout the Grand Prix weekend.
