Lazio History

S.S. Lazio, born in the city of Rome in 1900, is one of the oldest football clubs in Italian football. Reconisable for their sky-blue colours that honour Greece, they refused to merge into AS Roma in 1927, creating the tense *Derby della Capitale."

The club won their first Serie A title in 1974 under Tommaso Maestrelli and after struggles and relegation in the 1980s, businessman Sergio Cragnotti changed the club in the 90s, leading to huge success, including the 2000 Serie A and Coppa Italia double and a 1999 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

With later financial problems, Lazio stayed competetive, adding several domestic cups in the 2000s and 2010s. In recent history, and under Maurizio Sarri, they continue to compete in Serie A and Europe, with Ciro Immobile standing as their all-time top scorer.
