Inter Milan are one of the most successful sides in Italian football, winning 20 league titles and leaving their mark on the European stage lifting the Champions League trophy 3 times. Nicknamed the Nerazzurri for their black and blue stripes the Italian side are one of 2 Serie A sides residing in Milan. The other are there very close neighbours AC Milan in which they share a stadium with, the iconic San Siro. The club's most successful period was in the 1960s under Helenio Herrera where they won countless trophies and were known to develop the influential catenaccio defensive system.

After a mixed period during the 1970s and 80s they started to regain success in the 1990s. During this period world class stars such as Ronaldo Nazario, Denis Bergkamp and their long-term captain Javier Zanetti featured for the club. Even with these big names they struggled to secure silverware. In the early 2000s Internazionale returned to their best under Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho. They won 5 consecutive titles from 2005/06 with the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Javier Zanetti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic starring.

It was the 2009/10 campaign under Jose Mourinho where they had their most successful year as they were the first Italian side to win the treble. They secured the Serie A title, Coppa Italia and the Champions League. The 2010 Champions League win against Bayern Munich saw Inter Milan hero Diego Milito score an important brace to secure the trophy. Inter Milan have started to regain their early 2000s form in recent years, soaring under the management of Simone Inzaghi.

The San Siro is one of the most famous stadiums in world football, having hosted countless memorable matches over its 99-year legacy. It was originally the exclusive stadium of the Rossenari in 1926 before it became the joint home of both Milan clubs in 1947. The Curva Sud is often the heartbeat of Milan’s support, with many of the passionate local supporters residing in this stand. Inter Milan formed in 1909 as a group of AC Milan fans wanted more international representation in the club, which is why the club was named Internazionale. Inter Milan moved into the San Siro in 1947 from the Arena Civica.

The San Siro is known for its many special moments and for its uniquely developed stadium. Most notably the huge cylindrical towers of the stadium are a major talking point about the San Siro. These large towers were developed in the late 1980s in preparation for the 1990 World Cup, to support the new upper tier and to provide entrance to the higher levels of the stadium.

Getting to the San Siro

By Metro: By taking the Line M5 (Purple Line) and stopping at the San Siro Stadio, you will be no more than a 5 minute walk from the stadium. You can connect to the M5 line from both the M1 (Red Line) and the M2 (Green Line).

By Bus: There are multiple bus routes that stop near the San Siro Stadium, services can face possible delays on matchday. The Bus Routes that stop near the stadium are the 49, 78, 80 and the 98.

By Car: Driving is not recommended on matchday due to heavy congestion and road closures around the stadium. You can book parking from the limited book spaces at the San Siro Car Park. You can also secure paid parking in multiple locations around the stadium.

By Cycling: Currently bike sharing is a growing trend in Milan, to help reduce air pollution in the local area. There are many bike sharing options such as BikeMi as well as scooter sharing with Dott or Lime. It’s recommended that if travelling by bicycle you avoid leaving it overnight.
