  • It may not be one of the oldest rivalries in English football, but it has still managed to deliver some iconic and dramatic moments in the Premier League. The two sides first met in 1938, in the FA Cup, with the game finishing 0-0. After one more meet up that same year, Liverpool and Crystal Palace would not meet again for just over 3 decades with a First Division match that would see the Red's triumph 3-1.

The fixture would go on to be largely one sided for the coming decades, with Liverpool boasting a significantly higher number of wins over Palace, especially on home turf where Palace have found it difficult to secure results.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace History

Though Liverpool dominated this fixture for decades, one shock to football fans came in the 1990 FA Cup semi-final when Palace defeated Liverpool 4-3 at Villa Park and would go on to be one of their greatest victories and key moments in the clubs history. 24 years later during the climax of the Premier League title race, in what is known as 'Crystanbul', Liverpool let a 3-0 lead slip, with Palace equalising in the final 11 minutes of the game which caused a severe blow to Liverpool's title objectives, and is one of the most talked about matches between the two sides.

Whilst Liverpool remain to have the upper hand, historically, Palace have developed a reputation for being capable of causing upheaval, especially at Selhurst Park, where the passion of their fans can create a intimidating atmosphere for any visiting team. Most recently, Liverpool saw another defeated by Palace in the FA Community Shield, this time in the form of penalties and once again proving that 'The Eagles' have the ability to unexpectedly soar to the win.
