Ireland Cricket Team History
Ireland's rise from cricketing outsiders to a respected Full Member nation is one of the modern game's great growth stories. First achieving ODI status in 2006, Ireland made an immediate impact on the world stage at the 2007 Cricket World Cup, famously beating Pakistan on St Patrick's Day in a result still regarded as one of the greatest upsets in the tournament's history.
Ireland were awarded Full-Member status by the ICC in 2017 and played their inaugural Test match the following year, becoming just the 11th nation to reach that milestone. Since then, they have continued to produce memorable performances against the game's biggest teams, including a famous T20 World Cup win over England in 2022 and a historic bilateral series win over India in 2025 that captured headlines around the cricketing world.

Current Squad
Ireland operate a split-captaincy structure, with Andy Balbirnie leading the Test side, Paul Stirling continuing as ODI captain, and wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker recently appointed full-time T20I captain to help develop the next generation of Irish internationals. The squad blends experienced campaigners with a promising crop of young players coming through the system.
